Latino Heritage Month highlighted on campus
Aside from the Alfred Hitchcock movies, which
in many cases offered too much plot and thought, there are several videos
that offer just enough thought coupled with weirdness to be simply scary
and thought provoking.
One such movie is "Salem's Lot: The Miniseries."

The movie stars David Soul, known best
for his work on "Starsky and Hutch," James Mason and Elisha Cook.
Soul goes back to the town where he was
raised, Salem's Lot, Mass., as an accomplished writer working on a novel
about an evil house in a small town.
What seems to be just another haunted house
flick twists and turns once Soul meets up with Mason, who plays the new,
odd shopkeeper in town.
Soul knows something is wrong about Mason,
he just doesn't know what.
As he attempts to find out, though, Soul
learns many interesting things about Mason and the changes.
For another spine-chilling thrill, "Witchboard"
is the one.
Hence the name, the film gives insight
to the world of the Ouija, its powers and proper pronunciation.
The 1987 film stars Tawny Kitaen, Todd
Allen and Stephen Nichols.
When Kitaen is introduced at a party to
the Ouija board, she becomes hooked and, according to local legend, the
board becomes hooked with her.
Despite attempts by her friends to break
the addiction, she becomes intertwined with the workings of the board and
can't make a decision without its advice.
With good action, mediocre acting and a
dynamic plot, the movie is purely enjoyable.
The movie falls short in believability.
But, it is a horror film, so it's OK.
The answer to Monday's trivia question,
"who is the former Breck Shampoo model who posed for Playboy at 17-years-old
and made her movie debut in an early-ë80s 007 film," is Kim Basinger.
What was the name of the 007 film? "Never
Say Never, Again."
Now, this Ö what substance did Hitchcock
use in place of red dye as blood for the famous shower scene in his 1960
hit "Psycho?"
