The Long Beach State women's soccer team
plays two Big West Conference teams this weekend, and Head Coach Julie
Cochran hopes her team is ready to meet the challenge.
"Both will be great, competitive games.
We need to show up and play," Cochran said of upcoming games against UC
Irvine and Cal State Fullerton.
Last weekend, the 49ers hosted two games
at George Allen Field.
The 49ers (4-9 overall, 2-3 Big West) were
ready on Sunday and recorded a one-goal victory over Utah State.
Although the first half of the match was
scoreless, the 49ers came out strong in the second half.
Sophomore midfielder Catalin Murphy kicked
a long pass to teammate Jennifer Reott. She managed to swerve around the
Utah State defenders for her third goal of the season. Reott is the leading
scorer for the 49ers.
On Friday, things were a bit different
for the 49ers. They were shutout by the North Texas Aggies, 1-0.
This game was also scoreless in the first
half. However, the Aggies came into the second half hungry.
The Aggies' Teresa Vise scored the only
goal on a pass from Christy Johnson, in the first 25 seconds of the second
half.
Cal State Fullerton will host the 49ers
on Friday at 7p.m. The Titans (5-9, 1-3) are three points behind the 49ers
in the Big West Conference standings.
The UC Irvine Anteaters are behind the
49ers by two points in the Big West race.
UC Santa Barbara and Cal State San Luis
Obispo swept the Anteaters last weekend.
Cochran says these two games will
be tough, and the 49ers have to be ready to play.
"We need to continue to play hard," Cochran
said. "We need to take one game at a time." |
