Rules for vendors
Dear Forty-Niners,
Your student senators and I support the
concept of an open campus, but I'm mindful of the welfare of all our students
and community visitors.
Lately, students have come to me with concerns
about some of the commercial solicitors on our campus. Students mention
the manner in which they are approached and the way some solicitors seem
too aggressive.
Vendors do have access to our campus. But,
we do not want to have these types of complaints from our students.
The community at large, including commercial
solicitors, does have access to campus, however we want all visitors to
conduct themselves in a orderly manner.
We have a process for vendors and solicitors
to use that brings them in contact with university regulations for conducting
themselves while on campus.
In addition to the regulations already
in place, the Vice President for Student Services, Doug Robinson, has been
working very hard to better identify the vendors who have been approved
to solicit on campus.
Next month, a new policy will be in place
to assist vendors in understanding regulations regarding commercial solicitations.
