Six Cal State Long Beach freshmen have
been named recipients of the first Next Stage Scholarships.
The Wells Fargo Education Financial Services
and the office of University Outreach and School Relations at CSULB awarded
$500 to these students toward their university fees for the 1999-2000 academic
year.
The program aims to provide educational
opportunities for Long Beach Unified School District students who have
made CSULB their university of choice, said Valerie Bordeaux, director
of the CSULB outreach office.
"The university and Wells Fargo are very
happy about helping these students get a good start on this next step in
their lives," Bordeaux said.
This program, which is open to Long Beach
Unified seniors, requires applicants to demonstrate financial need, said
Rick Gloady, director of the media relations office at CSULB.
"[Candidates] should maintain a minimum
grade of 3.25," Gloady said. "They should be first-time freshmen for CSULB,
intending to be full-time students."
Those awarded the scholarships include
-
Rosalin Siv, a business administration major;
-
LaResha Richardson, a psychology major;
-
Elizabeth Diaz, undecided major;
-
Hue (Cindy) Tran, undecided major;
-
Johanna Hernandez, a psychology major;
-
Sunny Im, a liberal studies major.
Bordeaux strongly hopes that Wells Fargo will
provide this scholarship program annually. |
