FX panel features alumni

The College of the Arts at Cal State Long
Beach will host alumni Richard Miller and Lorne Peterson, to discuss their
work on "Star Wars," "The Mummy,î "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,"
and ěBack to the Future" on Wednesday.
"FX Secrets: From CSULB and Beyond" will
include slides and movie clips from the alumniís films, will be held in
the Design Department Gallery at 7 p.m.
Miller and Peterson will also have models
from their films featured at 6 p.m.
Both alumni are part of producer George
Lucas' Industrial Light and Magic, a special effects company that created
special effects for "Star Wars" and "Back to the Future" and television
commercials for Pepsi and Heinz.
Peterson began his work with ILM when he
was brought on by founder Lucas to create the models for "Star Wars," a
press release said.
As one of the original employees of the
company, he has worked on many films such as "The Empire Strikes Back,"
"Poltergeist," "ET: The Extraterrestrial," "Young Sherlock Holmes" and
many more.
Peterson received an Academy Award and
a British Academy Award for his work in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of
Doom."
Peterson has worked on most of Lucasí films
and many of Steven Spelberg projects. He has a bachelorís degree in art
from CSULB.
Aside from his ILM work, Peterson also
performed industrial design model making for McDonaldland, JBL Speakers,
Yamaha, Kikkoman and the feature film "The China Syndrome."
Miller, who has both a bachelor's and master's
degree in sculpture from CSULB, started at ILM in 1983 working on "Return
of the Jedi." Since then, he has worked on several projects including "Indiana
Jones and the Last Crusade," "Back to the Future II and III," "Star Trek
VI," "Mission: Impossible," "The Mummyî and "Star Wars: Episode I, The
Phantom Menace." |
