Will this weekend bring back-to-back wins for the Long Beach State womenís soccer team?

Head Coach Julie Cochran is hoping that it will.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

"Weíre still in the big picture. It's a matter of us playing up to our ability," Cochran said.

Last weekend, the 49ers (3-8 overall, 1-2 Big West Conference) traveled to Idaho to play Boise State and the University of Idaho.

LBSU won, 1-0, on an accidental goal against the Boise State Broncos on Sunday. Midfielder Kristie Hild from Boise State accidentally scored for the 49ers within the 25th minute of the game.

The goal occurred when the Bronco defenders blocked 49ersí forward Kim Stempkowskiís corner kick. Instead of clearing the ball, Hild scored for the 49ers.

49er goalkeeper Jihan Elgazzar had nine saves, while Jeanne Curtice had five saves for the Broncos.

Last Friday, the 49ers faced the University of Idaho Vandals and lost in overtime, 2-1.

Idaho scored first in the 40th minute of the game. Jennifer Frazier scored on a rebound shot from Jaclyn Pelton .

The 49ers responded with 10 minutes left in the game when midfielder Marisa Barragan scored on a pass from Kim Domen. With the score tied at one, the match went into overtime.

The 49ers' hopes were dashed when the Vandalsí Jennifer Kiebel smashed the winning goal into the net on a penalty shot.

Cochran hopes her team will play up to its ability this weekend against two Big West foes.

"Both are huge games for us and we're going to go into every game like itís our biggest," Cochran said.

The 49ers will play host to North Texas (6-4-1, 2-1-1) on Friday and Utah State (4-6, 2-3) on Sunday at George Allen Field.
