Legal drugs coming

Yet another reputable person is ready to call for an end to the war on drugs.

The governor of New Mexico is calling the war on drugs a dismal failure according to the Long Beach Press Telegram. Gary Johnson took his creed of legalization to Washington this week.

It's about time our politicians realize they are wasting their time and our money. Drug control is almost like gun control. And as many laws they pass, the only people who are being controlled are the ones not breaking the law.

More often than not, small-time drug dealers and users are cluttering up our prisons and courts while a steady influx of new drugs are finding their way to our streets.

The cost of fighting this losing battle is becoming as large as the national debt. Well, maybe that is an exaggeration. But the fact is the government is losing this battle. Why not cut our losses and get out like we did in Vietnam? Or, are our leaders going to wait too long to realize they can't?

Considering the way our nation is developing, we are probably only 50 years from the legalization of at least some drugs. Once the old fogies die off and our children come into power, that is when we might actually see some reform in the nation's drug policies.

There are just too many conservatives who cling to the outdated notion that all drug use is bad.

Many people our own age have been suckered into this belief also. That is why we are going to have to wait at least 50 years.
