Nonresident student fee increase considered

The California State University system
is considering a 15 percent nonresident student fee increase, said CSU
system Vice Chancellor Richard West.
The increase would bring annual revenues
of approximately $10 million to the CSU system, West said at the Board
of Trustees meeting Sept. 15.
Cal State Long Beach President Robert Maxson
said student fees should be increased only if ěthere is an absolute need
for that money that in some way will go back to help students."
Maxson said no final decision has been
made as the CSU system is still considering the fee increase.
But he said his position is to keep student
fees as low as possible.
"We do not want the fees to keep a single
qualified student in California from getting a good education," Maxson
said.
CSU nonresident fees are about 10 percent
below the average for comparable institutions, according to information
provided by the Chancellorís Office. |
