The Long Beach State Cross Country teams
head to Palo Alto this weekend for one the season's biggest meets, the
Stanford Invitational.
49er cross country Head Coach Andy Sythe
said the Stanford Invitational is "the most important race until the conference
championship."
What makes this meet so important is that
there will be seven top 20 schools competing in the womenís event and three
top 20 schools in the men's.
The key to this race, according to Sythe,
is a good start. "In a race like this, the object is to get out fast and
just maintain position," Sythe said. "You hope to pass more people for
the best possible positioning."
Injuries on the 49ers for the cross country
team are still nagging.
Larry Henderson has a slight strain in
his ribs. Johann Appell has a calf strain.
However, both should be fine for Stanford,
Sythe said.
As for the women, the stress fracture in
the foot of Bree Frigo has improved according to Sythe. Frigo has been
cross training on the exercise bike and been in the pool. She will be making
a test run soon and will be traveling to Stanford.
The 49ers outlook for the Stanford Invitational
depends on the health of the team proclaimed Sythe. What Sythe said he
does know is that the team is gaining more confidence. |
