Vehicles collide off campus

By Kristopher Hanson
Daily Forty-Niner

A traffic collision just off-campus Wednesday sent a man and a woman to the hospital with minor injuries.

Shortly before 9 a.m., a red Porsche, driven by a woman heading north on Palo Verde Avenue, was struck by a man in a white pickup traveling southbound, said Lt. Philip King of the Long Beach Police Department.

Police did not release the names of the victims.

"The Porsche was struck in the right-side passenger door" as the driver made a left turn onto Atherton Street, King said.

"Both vehicles were towed from the scene," King said, adding that injuries appeared to be minor, but the man sustained a cut to the head.

"The occupants from both vehicles were sent to [Long Beach] Community Medical Center for observation," said Capt. Bruce Balbirnie of the Long Beach Fire Department. "The man needed some stitches."
