Students, retailers need more spirit

On a trip to a local grocery store, I was alarmed to see that the store did not have any memorabilia from Cal State Long Beach. Instead, I saw pennants with fierce bears and mighty Trojans.

How are we supposed to feel pride in our school if the only place to buy CSULB merchandise is on campus?

Sure  there is University Text, but have you seen the apparel it sells? It looks like someone made it in his garage with a can of spray paint and a stencil.

CSULB has grown so much in that relatively short time that it is now getting national and international attention. That is why it truly pains me to see that a store directly across the street from campus promoting other Southland schools instead of the one closest to its doors.

If we as students canít show pride in our school, how can we expect the local businesses to do the same?
