Fear, hatred back

After almost 40 years, America is still fighting a deadly disease.

Racism is beginning to seep back into American society.

Last year three men were arrested for dragging a young black man to death in Jasper, Texas.

A white supremacist gave a "wake-up call to Americans to kill Jews," last month in the San Fernando Valley.

Racism is a condition caused by ignorance and fear. Instead of fearing the unknown, why not take the initiative to go out and learn about the unknown?

Have we become so callused that we can turn a blind eye to hate and intolerance in our own backyard?

But we have the opportunity to discuss the many different angles of a race crime.

We can hope that the dialogue in the community creates an air of understanding and acceptance in our neighborhoods. But that can only happen if people get over their fears, take some responsibility for what happensand treat one another as equals.

The Los Angeles Times reported Monday that two separate studies found that black and Hispanic landlords discriminate against other minorities when renting property.
If blacks and Hispanics canít even get on the same page, how can we stop racism in the country?

We have got to stop the spread of hatred and ignorance in our nation and our cities. Do not let hate-mongers thrive as we head in the 21st century.

Come on people, get your heads together. We need to realize there is only one race that really matters, the human race.
