Rage Against the Machine is officially
no longer being considered by the Associated Students Inc. to play a concert
at The Pyramid. Rock band Sugar Ray has now been offered a bid.
At the Associated Students Senate meeting
Wednesday, A.S.I. Administrator Robert Garcia said he was waiting for Rage
Against the Machine to respond to the last bid.
That bid, set at $35,000, expired at 5
p.m. that day. The band responded after the A.S. Senate meeting by rejecting
the A.S.I. offer, Garcia said.
Garcia said at the meeting that if Rage
Against the Machine was no longer interested, an offer would be sent to
Sugar Ray at 8 a.m. Thursday. Sugar Ray now has until 5 p.m. today to respond.
If Sugar Ray declines or does not respond,
Garcia said the next band to be considered would be Blink 182. If Blink
182 passes, then Beck would be next, despite any change in the bid.
"All of the artists are in our price range,"
Garcia said.
Some senators expressed concern about the
chances for a concert to be held.
"There is going to be a concert this year,
and a 90 percent chance it will be this semester," he said.
As for the concert date, that is unsure.
Garcia said that the bands at the end of the time line, such as Beck, want
the concert to be held in December.
If Sugar Ray accepts the A.S.I. offer,
the concert would be in November. Ticket prices will range from $15 for
students to $30 for the community, Garcia said.
When A.S.I. President Toby Sexton gave
his weekly report to the A.S. Senate, he said he was going to meet with
promoters in Las Vegas. Sexton said he hopes to make The Pyramid a place
where bands will want to come and play.
Also mentioned at the meeting was Midnight
Madness, which will happen Oct. 15. The event will be the first basketball
practice of both the men's and womenís basketball teams Garcia said.
Garcia said the A.S.I. would sponsor both
a pre-party and a party following the event. |
