A split is better than nothing.

The Long Beach State womenís soccer team had one loss and one win at the Pacific Collegiate Soccer Showcase in Stockton, California.

On Friday, the 49ers opened their Big West Conference schedule and were shut out by the University of the Pacific (4-0) for the second straight year.

The Tigers came out roaring in the first half. They managed to score within the first six minutes of the game. Pacific forward Jamee Lucchesi scored an unassisted goal. She also scored at the 3:50 minute mark of the second half.

Although LBSU goalkeeper Jihan Elgazzar had a career high eight saves. However, it didnít matter, as the 49erís offense stalled. The Tigers out shot the 49ers 19 to five.

In the second match of the tournament, LBSU faced the Idaho State Bengals on Sunday. The 49ers had their chances to avenge their loss to the Tigers by shutting out the Bengals. The 49ers held Idaho State, to only14 shots in a 1-0 victory.

The 49ers only goal was scored late in the first half of the game. Sophomore defender Amber Glende scored her first career goal, which would be enough for the 49ers' second win of the season. Bengal's goalkeeper Chrissy Nelson had four saves in the match. LBSU goalie Elgazzar was one better with five saves.

The game was played relatively close which was reflected by the statistics. The 49ers had 15 shots and five corner kicks while the Bengals' had 14 shots and only four corner kicks.

The 49ers next game will be at Nevada-Las Vegas on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The next LBSU home game is against Fresno State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at George Allen Field.
