Dope doesn't discredit

America is fighting a losing battle. We are winning the fight against tobacco, cancer and the battle of the bulge. But the drug war is whipping our tail.

If you take a look around the nation, especially in California, acceptance of drug use is more common than ever before.

The people of California passed an initiative to legalize the distribution of medical marijuana.

Last week another court ruled that some marijuana clubs could distribute medicinal pot if a client would be in serious harm without it.

Part of the reason is that an entire generation grew up in the 60s and 70s, at the height of experimental drug use.

Many police officers are even looking the other way in regards to marijuana use. Sometimes, officers will not even write a ticket for possession. They grew up in a time when such things were illegal, but not as dangerous.

They may realize that while dangers are associated with drug abuse, occasional and recreational use is not as terrible as they once thought.

Some of our leaders have used drugs. Maybe they wonít talk about it or say they never inhaled. Do any of us really buy that wad of garbage?  We know they have had their fun, learned from their mistakes and have gotten on with their lives.

We have reached a point where almost everyone has tried illicit drugs at some point in their lives. Now maybe we can get on with life and not discredit people who have previously used drugs. Why not just learn from their experience?
