Don't blame us

As an immigrant student Iím offended because, according to Linda Thom, (Immigration to Blame for School Overpopulation, Sept. 14) I'm like a virus that has infected the "American" schools.

Education is the most important tool that any person can obtain, but it seems that Thom considers the increase of student enrollment a negative thing.

I ask you, Thom, what distinguishes a student worthier of an education than another student? After all this country was built on the idea, "the pursuit of happiness."

It's clear that the solution that Thom offers is just to close off the borders. But by closing off the borders you also close off the rich culture that enters our nation.

You would close off the immigrant workers that make our farms grow. You would have to fire the immigrants in other decent but not well paying jobs.

Thom's idea is to keep the immigrants illiterate so that they may continue to do the jobs that Thom and people like her would never do.
