Determination equals victory

Good things happen with hard work.
This was the case Sunday as the Long Beach
State womenís soccer team won its first game of the season after four losses
to start the season.
However, the 2-0 victory over the Louisville
Cardinals at George Allen Field did not come easy, head coach Julie Cochran
said.
"It wasn't pretty, but I'm happy," Cochran
said. "We have set our goals...and we need to keep winning."
The game's only goals came from LBSU midfielders
Kim Domen and Jennifer Reott.
Domen scored 11 minutes into the game.
Teammates Kim Stempkowski and Kelli Barrett assisted on the goal when Stempkowski
centered the ball from the right corner to Barrett. She then tapped it
to Domen for an easy goal past Cardinal goalkeeper Jordan Fredriksen.
The 49ers' play in the second half sealed
the victory.
On the second goal, freshman defender Tiffany
Landgraff attempted to pass the ball to Barrett on her right side.
However, the ball went towards the left
instead, where Reott picked it up and scored her second goal of the season.
Landgraff received her first assist of the season, as well.
LBSU's freshman goalkeeper Jihan Elgazzar
kept Louisville out of the goal with four saves. She received her first
shut-out victory.
The 49ers outshot the Cardinals 21-12 and
also had four corner kicks compared to Louisvilleís one. LBSU committed
a season-high19 fouls.
"We have to go to work," said Cochran of
the teamís next two games in Stockton this weekend. They will play Pacific
on Friday night and Idaho State on Sunday. |
