Thriller thrills

By Wes Woods II
Daily Forty-Niner

An undercover cop goes deep inside enemy lines to catch the crook. Sound familiar? But despite a movie plot that more than resembles "Deep Cover" or even ìDonnie Brasco,î the latest cop thriller, "In Too Deep," still manages to entertain and delight with its use of graphic storytelling and dialogue.

The movie stars Omar Epps as undercover policeman Jeff Cole, who is a recent graduate from Cincinnati, and asks to try and bring down East Coast drug lord Dwayne "God" Gittens (LL Cool J).

Posing as J. Reid, a street-wise drug dealer from Akron, Ohio, Cole manages to befriend the infamous and intimidating "God" (as he's known on the street) while trying to dodge attacks on his authenticity and gather enough evidence to convict the drug lord.

Despite the familiar plot, the movie more than holds its own with stellar performances, particularly from Epps and LL Cool J.
