Roofs soon fixed

Rest assured that
Cal State Long Beach students and faculty may no longer face another rainy
winter of annoying roof drips.
Sections of roofs
and covered walkways were replaced in the University Music Center, the
Health and Human Services buildings, the Physical Education Building and
the Vivian Engineering Center.
All of the roofs
being replaced have been patched before because of leakage problems.
"These buildings
were leaking more than any other building on campus," said Mike Kelly,
assistant director of Planning and Design Services. "These buildings were
on top of the repair list."
Construction on the
four-building project began July 7 and should be completed by the end of
this week, Kelly said.
The contractor, Eberhard
Roofing, has until Sept. 14 to complete the project.
The remaining work
on top of the Vivian Engineering Center roof is minor, Kelly said, such
as caulking, sealing and site cleansup.
The continued roof
repair will not disrupt classes, he said.
The $773,000 construction
project is funded by the state through the differed maintenance fund, he
said.
Planning for the
project began two years ago, he said, but construction could not begin
until funding became available this summer.
"Everything has been
going very smoothly," Kelly said. "There haven't been any problems." |
