Fresh off a summer that saw womenís soccer
capture the hearts of America, the Long Beach State womenís soccer
team will lace up its cleats, as it gets set for its second season of intercollegiate
competition.
ìIím pretty excited,î head coach Julie
Cochran said. ìWe brought in a lot of good young players who have
meshed in great with the returners.î
LBSU finished 9-11 in its inaugural season
a year ago, but returns 13 players, including forward Kelli Barrett, the
teamís leading goal scorer, Cochran said.
The coaches also recruited 11 incoming
freshman, including Hannah Cochrun, a highly-touted goalkeeper from Mission
Viejo High School.
Though LBSU has an inexperienced squad,
Cochran is impressed with what she has seen.
ìNot only are they great players, but great
character people,î Cochran said.
ìThey are competitors, and that is hard
to find.î
The womenís soccer season gets underway
against the University of San Diego, Aug. 27, at 3 p.m., at George Allen
Field. |
