Important dates throughout CSULB'S History
-
1947-48: Survey is made by the State Department
of Education and the Regents of the University of California that recommended
a state college be built to serve Orange County and southeast portion of
Los Angeles County.
-
January 27, 1949: Governorís approval given
for the creation of a state college. Temporary buildings were constructed
at 5301 E. Anaheim St.
-
September 28, 1949: First fall semester is
in session with a student body of 160.

June 1950: The name of the new college was
changed from Los Angeles-Orange County State College to Long Beach State.
-
March 10, 1950: First newspaper was printed.
-
June 16, 1950: The first graduation exercises
where 30 students received their Bachelor of Arts degrees.
-
Summer of 1951: Construction began on a permanent
campus.
-
1953: Freshmen and sophomores are admitted.
-
June 1972: California legislature changed
the universityís name to California State University Long Beach.
-
1994: Dr. Robert C. Maxson is named CSULB
president..
