Food shops feed CSULB

By Gary Dunn
Special to the Summer Forty-Niner

The dining facilities provided at Cal State Long Beach are loaded with options to satisfy rumbling stomachs this year.

A variety of eating options await students, faculty and staff, said Roman Gulon, general manager of Forty Niner Shops Inc.

From hot dog vendors to sit-down dining and a growing vegetarian menu, Moms cooking may soon become a thought of the past.

The Parkside Commons and Residence Commons are the two dining halls available to students living in the dorms.

Just like elementary school days, even brown bag lunches are available upon request.

Menus include a variety of meat and vegetable entrees with unlimited seconds on most.

In addition, all lunch and dinner menus include a salad bar, fresh fruit and a wide selection of ice cream, yogurt and other desserts.

To accommodate all eating preferences three different pre-paid dining packages  are available to students.

The first, the Traditional 12, is for students who may be gone on the weekends or who just want to dine on campus less frequently. The plan allows for 12 meals per week.

The next package, the Traditional 19, is for the student who plans to eat most of their meals on campus. This plan allows for 19 meals each week.

The final package, which includes all of the benefits of either of the Traditional packages, charges $200 for $220 in credit that may be used towards the Forty-Niner food stores on campus or toward any guest meals.

For those students who want vegetarian meals or other food options, facility managers are available to accommodate all lifestyles.

"In the past our vegetarian menu has been rather limited," Gulon said. "Over the past few years our staff has really worked hard to try to meet everyoneís preferences. It is really not a change in our program, but rather a change in our consumer awareness and attitude. We want to serve all our students the best we can."

Prices for the packages were not available because they are totaled into the overall cost of the dorm leases.

Information can be obtained by calling (562) 985-8896, or by visiting the Residence Halls offices, Monday.
