Finishing third place in the conference
isnít bad. But head coach Sue Ewart wants more for her womenís golf
team, such as being one of the top 75 teams in the country.
Ewart said she and her team are excited
for the upcoming season. Every player is returning, and there are
a few new additions to the team as well.
ìEvery year, I try to bring in better players
and get better scores,î Ewart said.
She said she is looking for a little bit
of improvement in the fall and a lot in the spring.
Ideally, her team will finish in the top
three in the conference again, she said.
ìI would like to have everybody consistently
shooting in the 70ís,î she said. ìFive good scores in the 70ís would
be great.î
This goal is achievable with the leadership
of senior team captain Fredrika Schlasberg. She, along with her teammate,
sophomore Shelbie Jasper, will carry the team this year. Another
key player is freshman Carla Legaspi.
Despite lots of stiff competition, Ewart
feels that her team can move up the ladder.
She said that they possess a lot of depth
and talent, and if they can be consistent, they will be unstoppable.
With four tournaments this fall and six
in the spring, the golfers have plenty of time to prove themselves.
Their first test comes Sept. 7-8, when
they will be traveling to Fort Collins, Colo., to compete in the RAM Fall
Classic. |
