The Real Deal About Acquaintance Rape and Sexual Assault

This activity is designed to make teens aware that the majority of sexual
assaults are committed by someone known to the victim, to explain the
necessity of obtaining and giving consent before engaging in sexual
intercourse, and to provide tools for teens to help them stay safe in a
variety of situations.
- According to the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN), 67
percent of rape victims are raped by someone known to them.
- About 44 percent of rape victims are under age 18.
- One in six US women has been the victim of an attempted or completed
rape, and 10 percent of sexual assault victims are men.
- In about one out of three sexual assaults, the perpetrator was
intoxicated.
- Binge drinking and drug use are related to increased rates of
victimization.
