As you’ve no doubt guessed, one of my real passions in life is
the ocean. However, this is strictly a
vicarious pursuit! I’m never on, or
in, the ocean. I just enjoy watching
it either from the serenity of a
restaurant or a pier. Among the
pictures displayed here are the ocean views from some of my favorite restaurants and
piers. |

Before it closed one of my favorite restaurants was Louise’s (across
the street from the Huntington Beach Pier).
Knowing I’d feed him, the pigeon I’m facing in this picture would wait
for the server to bring bread to my table.
After a few weeks he would land right in front of me on my way into
the restaurant. Feeling guilty, I
started buying bread in a health food store below the restaurant so I could
feed him before going in. After doing
this for a few weeks he began to fly over to the bus stop where I got
off. So, I started bringing food from
home so I could feed him as soon as I got off the bus. If he didn’t greet me all I had to do was
use a particular whistle and he would come right down expecting to be
fed. I hope I never disappointed him! |
