"The creation of the world did not take place once and for all time, but takes place every day." (Samuel Beckett)

(published by Palgrave Macmillan October 2006)
Since immigrating to Southern California in 1987 I have taught at the University of California, Riverside, the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of Southern California, and California State University, Long Beach where I am an associate professor.
I have written books on Samuel Beckett's later fiction, Christopher Isherwood (a biography), twentieth century literary autobiography, D. H.Lawrence's Sons and Lovers, and English fiction since 1984. My latest book published in 2008 is on Martin Amis.

This site is primarily constructed for the benefit of my students at California State University, Long Beach and for fellow English scholars.
My students will find their syllbabi which include links to important reliable websites concentrating on the subject of their course. There are also links to Coast, the Long Beach University's libarary catalogue, that library's databases, ILLiad, the interlibrary service login page, the Long Beach English Department and the University's Honors Program.
For the benefit of my fellow English scholars I have provided links to my more recent essays, most of them already published in journals or books, mainly devoted to recent British fiction.
Also included are my Vita, and a link to the most reliable web site concerned with contemporary British fiction, the topic of most of my essays.
