My Occupations

Long Beach Memorial

Long Beach Memorial Medical Center

My actual work right now is at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. My position is a Critical Care Technician which basically does the job of the nurse's aid and the unit secretary in one. It's a really great job and I love it there. I really love helping people and knowing that I might not be making the biggest difference but I'm helping to make people's hospital stays a little less traumatic and a little more pleasurable. They tell me I do a pretty good job there so I think it's safe to say that I do a pretty good job there. It's everything I wanted in a job before my career though. Special thanks to my mom for telling me about the position and guiding me through EMT training.

While this isn't a job of mine (however much I want it to be), for the sake of importance, I'm putting down student because college career is very important to me. While the hardships of school, homework, tests, and the stress that comes from it is always painful, learning is a founded love of mine. My biology classes have regained my confidence in reading, learning, and pursuing knowledge. If I could major in ever subject, I just might.

My Career

Computer Nurse

My future career is all up in the air right now. However, I have a general idea of what I wanted to do. I'm quite nervous about going into the Computer Science direction because the jobs aren't always needed and I don't really want to be laid off one day. However, I just heard there is going to be a great need for computer knowledgeable people. So, it wouldn't be a bad career choice depending on what path I took down that road. There is also the direction of Nursing. I just went to get an updated application and they say you have to have a 3.70 at least (most of the applicants that they accepted). I'm not too worried about getting into the program so much as I am worried about going down that route. It's a nice option to take though, the job is always needed (sadly). There is always a shortage of Nurses.

What I really want to do is combine the two fields. It seems like the better computer people as far as game designers or web designers, most of them have a significant interest in something else. I really want to become a Nurse and do that for a few years, make better money while going to school to get my computer science degree.

Pharmacy Option

Another option which seems less likely but is really something that I want to consider and do. I've looked up tons of information about the colleges in California that have pharmacy programs, what class you have to take, what GPA they usually have (3.75 again), and what classes people need to take to become a pharmacist. I really want to be a pharmacist, get my computer science degree, and make computer programs for pharmacists. Wouldn't that be something else?

Medical Director

Over the past year I have had to make some pretty tough decisions about the direction I will be taking in the future and for the rest of my life. With the help of my biology classes and professors, family and friends, coworkers, and patients I have taken care of, I have decided to become a doctor. I have asked fellows, doctors, residents, along with everyone just mentioned if it was the right choice and what that career would entail. They have all said that it is the right choice if it's truly what you want to do. For the past year and especially the last few months I have put myself to the test to see if it's what I want to do. I want to become a doctor to help people with their biological and physiological needs. If someone were to come to me with a health related problem, I want to be able to tell them everything is going to be ok, we're all here to help, this is how we're going to help you.
