Outina Defeats Potanou

Description

The sorcerer's report frightened Outina so much that he contemplated marching home again without even giving battle to the enemy. But Ottingy, annoyed at the idea of having made all his sacrificing in vain, accused him of lacking courage and of being a poor leader. These reproached and threats at last forced Outina to order an attack. He put the French harquebusiers in the front line, where they very willingly bore the brunt of the fighting, killing many of the enemy and routing Chief Potanou's army.
Had it not been for the French, Outina would have been defeated, for the enemy had come in great force. (Thus the report of the sorcerer was proved true; he must certainly have been possessed of a devil.) When Potanou's army fled, Outina ordered his men back and marched home again, to the great wrath of Ottigny, who wished to follow up the victory.
