Bulletin Board, Presentation or Paper Assignment
This assignment gives you the chance to examine an interesting issue related to science teaching. The gist of your assignment is to find (at least) five articles all related to a particular topic. Examples might include cooperative learning, learning styles, lecturing, and gender equity. Of course, your choices are wider than those four examples. NARST's Research Matters series and ERIC_Digests might be places to help you start your searching.
At least three of the five articles should be research related. Read the articles, think about them, and then synthesize your reading into a brief presentation, paper, or bulletin board. In each case, your purpose is to sumarize the research on your topic, with emphasis on classroom application. Although you'll want to give a brief summary of each of your articles, finding commonalities or otherwise synthesizing the articles is more important. Your audience for each option below is preservice teachers.
In each option you should hand in an annotated bibliography including your topic, references, and a one sentence summary of each article. Here are additional details about each of the options:
Presentation Prepare a five minute presentation for your peers. You should include one (and only one) overhead. Your overhead should be clear and easy to read (at least 18 pt type), mentioning only main points. If necessary, you may also include a handout.
Paper Prepare a two to three page paper (double spaced, 12 pt type) for your peers. (The bibliography is not part of the two to three pages.)
Bulletin Board Prepare materials to be placed in the bulletin board outside the classroom. Although you need to fill about half the space, your materials (e.g., text) must be large enough to be visible at a distance.
