The California State University System provides baseline funding for the centers listed below. Individual campuses can subscribe to these centers. For 2003-2004, CSULB has subscribed to the following.

Engineering Specialty Center

The Engineering Specialty Center, CSU Sacramento, provides access to a wide range of Engineering software, training, and documentation. Systemwide licenses are in place with Autodesk, SDRC, Microstation, Parametric Technology and several other suppliers of engineering software.

Geographic Information Systems Specialty Center

The Geographic Information Systems Specialty Center at San Francisco State University provides site licenses for software products from Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), Redlands, California. The CSU System is an institutional member of the California Geographic Information Association (CGIA).

A GIS is a comprehensive database tied to location, with an integrated set of tools for querying, analyzing, and displaying that information. GIS technology is multidisciplinary and can be used in any discipline where information can be mapped to provide a visual perspective. It provides a good complement with SSDBA for mapping data. Macromolecular Structural Analysis Resource Core Specialty Center

The Macromolecular Structural Analysis Resource Core (MSARC), at San Diego State University, provides facilities, expanded services and expert consulting for DNA/protein structural analysis. Social Science Database Archive Specialty Center

The Social Sciences Database Archive at CSU Los Angeles, provides training, access to polling and survey data, census data, social science data, instructional modules (both substantive & methodological), and many other types of data (e.g., health care, educational, economic, etc.) and related services. The SSDBA provides access to datasets from the ICPSR, the Roper Center, the Field Institute, and CSU faculty.

Subscribers may search the holdings of the following vendors and place orders directly from the SSDBA web page.

  • Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Data on economic, sociological, historical, organizational, social, psychological, and political concerns occurring in over 130 countries.
  • California Field Polls. Measures prominent social and political issues. The data is timely and valuable for research and instruction.
  • The Roper Center for Public Opinion Research. Data available on over 10,000 separate surveys.
  • Census Bureau. California 2000 census available on-line, as well as census data for years back to 1900. Additional census data is available upon request.
