CATS
CATS
is a California State University systemwide initiative dedicated
to improving support for academic technologies. The California State
University, Long Beach affiliate of CATS, known as “Beach
CATS”, is a self-constituted group, open to all CSU faculty
and staff members effecting the use of digital technologies for
teaching, learning, and research. (Beach CATS is formerly known
as the “Lab Coordinators Group”.)

Mission Statement
The mission of Beach CATS is to support, advocate, and articulate
the ways technology can be effectively deployed to support the
academic goals of the university.
Goals
of Beach CATS

To pool the expertise of computer and audio-visual support personnel
campus-wide, in order to provide advice in the area of technology
planning and deployment, and
- To
research the technical requirements associated with meeting the
academic goals of the university, and
- To
promote communication among technology users, support people,
departments, colleges, and divisions, and
- To
advocate sound and economical policies regarding the use of technology,
and
- To
maximize the effectiveness and minimize the cost of purchases,
and
- To
contribute to planning processes that impact upon the effective
deployment of technology, and
- To
contribute to the development and implementation of the CSU’s
Baseline Standards for technology, and
- To
articulate which services can best be performed in a centralized
and which in a decentralized structure. and
- To
represent the campus in systemwide organizations such as CATS,
and
- To
promote universal access to the diverse community of technology
users.
Faculty
and staff who are providing computer support within their division,
college and/or department are invited to join the campus Beach-CATS.
The group meets two-three times per semester. Please contact Edwin
McBride, Director of Academic Computing Services, for details on
meeting times and locations. Members of Beach-CATS also participate
through a BeachBoard organizational website.
