Languages Online

There is an interesting web site called Frovo, which has the wildly optimistic goal of recording every word in every language in the world. You can browse the current collection by language, or search for a specific word. You can also join for free, which will allow you to add your own recordings, or rate the pronunciations recorded by others.

Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts Language Labs. The Language Labs were installed in Fall, 1999 to provide an easily accessible, state of the art learning environment for language students at California State University, Long Beach.

The Language Labs provide many resources to enhance the individual study of modern foreign languages. There are currently two labs which deliver digital audio listening capabilities, dedicated foreign language word processing, Internet access, and state of the art language software.

The facilities are open to the entire California State University, Long Beach community. Priority use, however, is reserved for the students and instructional staff of modern languages.

The College of Liberal Arts maintains two language labs located in adjacent rooms in the Language Arts Building. Room LAB 305 is a state of the art digital multimedia computer lab. There are 24 student stations and an instructor station which operate in concert to provide a powerful new dimension to language learning. LAB 306 houses 41 computers equipped with foreign language word processing capabilities, Internet access, and dedicated language learning software.

The Language Labs are located on the third floor of the Language Arts Building (LAB), on the south end of campus near the main library, in rooms LAB 305 and 306.

Operating hours for the Fall 2009 semester are shown below. All students are welcome to use the lab anytime during these hours, however priority will be given to students enrolled in foreign language courses.

The Language Lab observes all campus holidays.
