The University Student Union (USU) is considered the heart and soul of Long Beach State University (LBSU). Used by thousands of students, staff, faculty, alumni and visitors daily, it has become the welcoming living room of our campus.

Opened in 1972 and designed by renowned architect, Edward A. Killingsworth, the USU featured modern amenities of its time including bowling lanes, billiards, music listening lounges, food vendors and a center for student services. Since the 70s, both our campus and community have evolved; expanding beyond its starting point with new developments such as additional services for students.

ASI’s vision for the USU has always been "best at what students want," and our USU Board of Trustees holds us accountable to this mission each year. The Board includes student leaders, staff, faculty and alumni representatives, meeting monthly throughout the academic year to discuss the operations of both the USU and the Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC).

Our Mission:

The University Student Union is an inclusive gathering place which provides innovative programs, essential services and co-curricular experiences that enrich student development while contributing toward their retention, enhancing their educational experience and promoting student advocacy.
