Long Beach State track and field athletes are making great strides, jumps and throws this season.

Runner Rosa Del Toro achieved her sixth school record with a lifetime-best 16:23.15 in the 5000-meter run on the first day of the Husky Classic in Seattle. She ranks first among the 49er all-time leaders in the indoor mile, 3000m and 5000m, the outdoor 1500m, and both the 5K and 6K in cross country.

Two 49ers also became the No. 3 5000m runners for the campus and posted personal bests, as Michelle Thompson came in at 17:11.86 and Jake Dawson ran for 14:37.37.

At the Air Force Team Challenge, Willie Alexander won the long jump with a schol record of 24-11.25. Michael Vaughan won the triple jump with a personal record 48-10, while Emily Cooper took victories in the 60m (7.54) and 200m (24.72).

Cal State Fullerton’s Ben Brown Invitational saw Meghan Foley win the 1500m in a personal record 4:34:90, while Jacob Fraser and Jason Harrell took first and second in discus with 164-06 and 161-01, respectively. Chris Yates came in second in shot put with 55-00, followed by Fraser with 53-01.75.

Five 49ers won their events at Long Beach State’s own Beach Classic at Cerritos College—Fraser in the discus and shot put, Conner Rouse for pole vault, Michael Vaughan in triple jump and Dylan McCloskey in the 400m.
