1980

Michael G. Relich (1982, B.S., business administration–management information systems) is chief information officer for the clothing firm GUESS and is recognized as an innovator in information systems and e-commerce for retail firms.

Pasadena Magazine selected attorney Juan Dominguez to its 2012 top personal injury lawyers list. He earned his law degree from the University of California Hastings College of the Law and also is involved in a variety of Southern California philanthropic activities.

The Los Angeles Daily Journal named Eugene P. Ramirez (1983, B.A., political science) to its Top 25 Municipal Lawyers list. He earned his J.D. degree at Whittier Law School and is a founding member of the Los Angeles law firm Manning & Kass, Ellrod, Ramirez, Trester. He specializes in defending law enforcement professionals and is an adviser on use of force, canine and SWAT issues.

Hans Hellsund (1984, B.S., industrial management engineering) is the new director of sales and marketing at Diversified Technical Systems in Seal Beach. DTS develops data recorders for crash, blast and biomechanics testing.

Jill Reagan (1984, B.S., business administration–accountancy), a certified public accountant, has joined Lamia Financial Group in Thousand Oaks, where she provides tax and financial planning advisory services.

David C. Bolstad (1985, B.S., business administration–finance) has joined the renamed law firm Safarian Choi & Bolstad in Los Angeles, where he specializes in real estate litigation. He earned his J.D. degree at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.

John P. DrayerJohn P. Drayer (1986, B.A., political science; 1991, credential) was installed as a member of the Cerritos College Board of Trustees in December.

1990

Army Lt. Col. Michaele (Garcia) McCulley (1991, B.A., sociology) is commander of the Goldminer Team at the National Training Center Operations Group at Fort Irwin, Calif., which provides logistics and combined arms doctrine training for battalion commanders and staff.

The global public relations and communications firm Burson-Marsteller appointed William M. Orr (1991, B.A., journalism) as U.S. executive vice president, focusing on the firm’s technology and consumer marketing capabilities. He was executive vice president of Racepoint Group.

The city of Seal Beach selected Joe Stilinovich (1991, B.S., business administration–marketing; 2009, M.S., emergency services admini­stration) as its new police chief. He had served with the Long Beach Police Department for 17 years, most recently as a commander.

Patrick L. Somerville (1993, B.S., civil engineering) has joined HNTB Corp. as a vice president and Southern California group director, focusing on the infrastructure firm’s transportation practice.

Saratoga Retirement Community named Cathy O. Schumacher (1994, MBA) as executive director for the 37-acre Silicon Valley-area facility. The former nurse has extensive experience in retirement community and geriatric management.

1995

Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. appointed Alma Salazar (1995, B.A., speech communication; 2003, MPA; 2012, Ed.D.) to the California Workforce Investment Board that advises the governor on jobs and workforce development. Salazar has been with the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Unite-LA since 2002.

Iran Barrera (1997, B.A., psychology; 2003, MSW), assistant professor of social work at the University of Texas Pan American, returned to CSULB in March as a guest speaker at the Latino Health Equity Conference. He earned a joint Ph.D. in social work–international comparative social welfare policy from the University of Texas at Arlington and Universidad de Autónoma de Nuevo León, Mexico, and is an expert in mental health issues in Latino communities. As an undergrad, he was a pitcher on the Long Beach State baseball team.

Tracy Mendoza (1997, B.A., English; 2001, M.A., English literature) is the new executive director of development for the Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism at USC. She previously was associate director of USC’s Center on Philanthropy and Public Policy.

The city of Atherton selected George Rodericks (1997, MPA) as its new city manager. He was city manager of Belvedere in Marin County.
