CSULB President F. King Alexander, third row, far right, was among the more than 70 higher education executives from across the nation who gathered in Washington, D.C., in July to lay a wreath at the Lincoln Memorial, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the establishment of land-grant colleges and universities under the Morrill Act signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862. They were among nearly 700 education leaders attending the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities Convocation held in honor of the act, which was signed in the midst of the Civil war and enabled states to set aside federal land for public higher education.
