The Daily 49er campus newspaper won first place in the College Newspaper/Youth Media division at the 54th annual Southern California Journalism Awards sponsored by the Los Angeles Press Club in June, where judges praised the paper for its investigative stories and variety of news.
Photo editor Stefan Agregado earlier won the national breaking news photography category in the Society of Professional Journalists’ Mark of Excellence Awards for his photo of student protestors at a CSU Board of Trustees meeting.
In addition, CSULB journalism students including Agregado, Tracy McDannald, Cosette Macari, Kysung Gong, Robbie Eich and Yoon Song won eight awards at the California College Media Association this spring.
