In 2010, Mr. Murphy was listed as president and CEO of Harborage Continental Corporation. He assumed this position after retiring from 35 years of service at Rockwell International as a senior vice president, corporate officer and a member of the corporation’s Senior Management Committee. Mr. Murphy earned his bachelor’s degree in 1962 in psychology from California State University, Long Beach and an MBA from Michigan State University in finance and general management. His affiliations with CSULB include past Board of Governors, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity member (collegiate chapter president), 1992 Distinguished Alumnus, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, former Carpenter Performing Arts Center Steering Committee member, and former Academic Corporate Council member. In 1984, Mr. Murphy authored “Succession Planning in Leading Companies” for Strategic Human Resources Management.
In addition to his past corporate responsibilities, Mr. Murphy has served on the national boards of the National Urban League, Council of La Raza, past chair of the LA Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and founding director/board member of the Long Beach Community Partnership. Additionally, he has served as a member of the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees of the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and chairman of the Murphy Family Foundation supporting children’s charities locally and nationally.
