An alumnus of CSULB, Samuel “Skip” A. Keesal, Jr. graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. While at CSULB, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. In 1965, he received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Southern California.
Keesal founded the law firm of Keesal, Young & Logan in 1970. The firm, with offices in Long Beach, San Francisco, Seattle, Anchorage and Hong Kong, has developed expertise in many specialties of civil law. Having passed the bar exams in California, Hawaii, Texas and Colorado and obtaining extensive trial practice, Keesal is consistently named to the “Best Lawyers in America” list. In 1990, Keesal was one of 500 lawyers selected worldwide to join the prestigious International Academy of Trial Lawyers, where he sits on the Board of the Directors of the Academy and its Foundation. Among other distinctions, he is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Additionally, Keesal was honored by CSULB in 1991 as the College of Business Administration Distinguished Alumni Award recipient.
Keesal has dedicated himself and his firm to supporting charitable and civic projects in the community including: Long Beach Area Council of Boy Scouts of America, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, National Conference for Community and Justice, Camp Fire USA, Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, Children’s Health Fund, YMCA of Greater Long Beach, the Board of Trustees for Long Beach Memorial Hospital, and Leadership Long Beach. In 2007, he was awarded the Crystal Arts and Humanitarian Award from the International City Theatre for his significant contribution to arts, culture and education.
He has supported the President’s Scholars Program and has served on the Carpenter Performing Arts Center Committee. He received the Karen and Richard Carpenter Performing Arts Center “Spectrum Award for Leadership” for his organizational contributions to the center’s completion. A strong supporter of education, he is a founding member of the Board of Governors at CSULB. He also has represented Keesal, Young, & Logan on CSULB’s Academic Corporate Council.
