An extraordinary humanitarian, Mary Alice Braly is passionate about children’s medical care. She has been involved with numerous community groups and served as president for such organizations as the Nightingales Junior Organization of Children’s Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Center Guild of Long Beach, Memorial Women’s Hospital League, the Pacific Rim Housing Corporation, Long Beach Center Ability First and Steel Magnolias, a support group for the Stramski Children’s Development Center.

Additionally, in 1998, she was named the Rick Rackers’ “Woman of the Year.” Braly is on the Board of Trustees for Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and is a lifetime member of the Miller Children’s Hospital Advisory Board. She also co-chaired the Capital Campaign for the new Miller Children’s Hospital, raising over $24 million. Additionally, she supports the Long Beach Day Nursery, Childnet Youth and Family Services. A presenter of the fundraiser for the Todd Cancer Center Event, she also chaired the “Dancing with our Stars” fundraiser.
Her volunteer service and honors include CCEJ California Conference for “Equality and Justice” Humanitarian Award, 2010; Los Angeles “Outstanding Volunteer” and recipient of the Award of Merit at National Philanthropy Day; appointed by Governor George Deukmejian to the California Commission on the “Status of Women”; Long Beach Community Medical Center Foundation; Alamitos Bay Garden Club President; Rancho Los Alamitos Foundation Board of Trustees; “Footlighters” charter member supporting Musical Theater West; Long Beach Ronald McDonald House capital campaign cabinet member; and Assistance League of Long Beach.

At CSULB, Braly is a Fine Arts Affiliate, a member of the Director’s Circle and a member of the Carillon Society, which recognizes those who have made a substantial contribution to California State University, Long Beach. She has served as the associate chair for the Disabled Student Services Committee and helped raise $1.6 million through private donations to establish a computer lab at CSULB. In 2005, Braly was inducted into the Long Beach City College Hall of Fame. She and her husband have contributed generously to CSULB, naming the Braly Conference Room in Disabled Student Services, which serves as a reminder of the family’s support for the Student Services Division.

She is a member of the Long Beach City College Class of 1955. The Bralys have resided in Long Beach for almost 50 years.
