CSULB Student Responses to WASC Survey 2: Analysis of Open-Ended Questions

It must be noted that students were not asked about CSULB’s strengths and what they liked about the institution, although a small percentage of students did make positive comments. The questions asked how CSULB could improve student success. The most frequently occurring comments dealt with advising; quality of instruction; and class availability.

Additional information may be obtained by contacting the authors of this report.

Table 1 shows the major categories of student open-ended responses, with the total number of responses in each category, as well as the sub-totals of responses in each sub-category. The following discussion section reports a sample of student comments for the most important student concerns. Student comments are presented as typed by the student, either in lowercase or uppercase or mixed.
