A total of 1,671 University employees responded to the e-mail by visiting the survey on-line, for about a 48% response rate. However, not all employees who accessed the survey completed it. Employees were required to click on a button at the end of the survey to record all answers. No answers were recorded until the button was clicked.
A total of 993 employees did complete the survey so that their answers were recorded in the database, for a response rate of about 28%. For web-based surveys, this is an acceptable response rate. No identifying data were recorded, so it is not possible to tell how representative the sample is of all CSULB employees. Looking at response rates by group, about one-third of tenured and tenure-track faculty completed the survey, as did about one-third of staff and administrators. The completion rate for lecturers was somewhat lower at about 20%. However, nearly all employees who completed the survey included open-ended comments. The analysis of these comments revealed a wide range of opinions that suggested a varied employee sample had been obtained.
The priority ranking for each strategy is presented in the following tables. One way to look at the tables is to consider how many respondents chose each strategy as their first priority, second priority, and so forth. Another way to look at the tables is to consider which strategies were not chosen as a priority by respondents. These two perspectives should be helpful in arriving at conclusions and recommendations for future actions.
