Executive Summary: Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty Responses

Spring 2006 Campus WASC Survey Report

A total of 278 tenured and/or tenure-track (TTT) faculty responded.

WASC Theme 1: Institutional Effectiveness

TTT faculty indicated their top priorities as creating a vision, establishing strategic priorities, and managing the budget, with at least one-third of faculty ranking these as their first or second priority.

Other priority areas needing attention chosen by TTT faculty under Theme 1 include:

  • Administration
  • Communication
  • Facilities space

WASC Theme 2: Staffing for Effectiveness

Fifty-five percent of TTT faculty ranked adequate salaryas their highest priority; the next highest ranked topic was managing workload.

Other priority areas needing attention chosen by TTT faculty under Theme 2 include:

  • Affordable housing
  • Supporting scholarly and creative activities
  • Attracting and retaining faculty and staff
  • Rewarding good performance
  • Supporting instruction

WASC Theme 3:  Student Success

TTT faculty indicted their highest two priorities as improving instruction and helping students to master knowledge and skills.

Other priority areas chosen by TTT faculty under Theme 3 include:

  • Preparing students for lifelong learning, employment, and grad school
  • Improving student retention
  • Admission standards
  • Student motivation
  • Student advising
  • Student engagement with the campus
  • Student writing/ communications skills
