Executive Summary: Staff Responses

Spring 2006 Campus WASC Survey Report

The following results were derived from responses of 378 staff.

WASC Theme 1:  Institutional Effectiveness

The highest ranked priorities for staff were addressing and solving problems, strategic priorities, creating a vision, and managing the budget.

In open-ended comments, staff also indicated the following as priorities under institutional effectiveness:

  • Communication
  • Facilities/space
  • Employee workload
  • Staff salaries
  • Student success

WASC Theme 2:  Staffing for Effectiveness

Sixty-five percent of staff ranked adequate salaryas the highest priority; about one-third of staff ranked rewarding good performance and employee retention as the next two highest priorities.

Other priority areas recommended by staff under Theme 2 include:

  • Administration
  • Professional development
  • Employee evaluation and recognition
  • Affordable housing

WASC Theme 3: Student Success

About one-third of staff ranked improving instruction, student retention, and preparing students for employment and graduate study as their highest priorities for student success.    

Other priority areas suggested by staff under Theme 3 include:

  • Campus engagement
  • Advising
  • Admission standards
  • Community goals
