Spring 2006 Campus WASC Survey Report

A total of 94 administrators responded.

WASC Theme 1:  Institutional Effectiveness

Administrators placed the highest priority on establishing strategic priorities, with 53% ranking this as their first or second priority.  Similarly 51 % of administrators ranked creating a visionas their first or second priority.

Other priority actions chosen by administrators under Theme 1 include:

  • Managing growth
  • Addressing and solving problems
  • Managing the budget
  • Facilities space;

WASC Theme 2: Staffing for Effectiveness

Sixty-one percent of administrators ranked adequate salary as their highest priority.  No other strategy was endorsed by a majority of administrators.

Other priority actions suggested by some administrators under Theme 2 include:

  • Attracting faculty and staff to campus
  • Affordable housing
  • Recognizing and rewarding good performance
  • Encouraging faculty and staff to remain at CSULB
  • Managing faculty and staff workload
  • Employee accountability
  • Collaboration

WASC Theme 3:  Student Success

Student retention, facilitating graduation, and student learning outcomes were highly rated by 33 to 36% of administrators.    

Other priority actions indicated by administrators under Theme 3 include:

  • Improving the quality of instruction
  • Supporting student mastery of knowledge/skills
  • Advising
  • Teaching accountability
  • Campus engagement
