In spring 2006, the WASC Steering Committee at CSULB commissioned a survey of the campus community to develop themes for the upcoming proposal to WASC. The web survey consisted of questions on three areas: institutional effectiveness, staffing for effectiveness, and student success. Tenured, tenure-track and lecturer faculty along with staff and administrators were presented with a list of strategies for each area and asked to indicate their first through fifth priorities. Additional open-ended comments were also solicited about each of the three areas. Students were only asked about items concerning student success but could also make open-ended comments.
The survey was sent via e-mail with a message from President Alexander inviting participation. A total of 1,671 University employees accessed the survey web page and 993 employees completed the survey. Almost 3,000 students accessed the survey web page and 1,853 students completed the survey. No identifying information was recorded for any respondent other than university role (employee or student).
