A steering committee appointed by the university president and representing all campus constituencies is charged with organizing and overseeing the accrediting review process in its several stages. The steering committee draws on the expertise of campus leaders in areas such as program review, student learning outcomes assessment, and faculty professional development to help frame the university’s self-inquiry.
The Accreditation Liaison Officer chairs the Steering Committee with assigned time or equivalent support. In addition, a faculty member partially released from teaching obligations for the duration of the accrediting review process will coordinate such things as campus outreach, making sure that the campus community is fully informed of the accreditation review process and has opportunities to provide comments and suggestions. A half-time clerical position supports the steering committee and the co-chairs.
Key administrators from all university divisions serve on the steering committee and work to support and implement the activities identified in the work plan. As the campus moves forward toward the Capacity and Preparatory, and Educational Effectiveness Reviews, many persons across campus will be involved in the various areas of inquiry and in the preparation of the review reports. Institutional data reports are supplied by the office of the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Research and Assessment, who serves on the steering committee. The CSULB WASC website is maintained by University Relations and Development.
The accrediting review process will incorporate a number of existing institutional initiatives, studies, and projects that aim to enhance institutional capacity, examine student success, and improve support for the university’s human resource bank. CSULB has identified, in its three core commitments, areas that the university has already prioritized for investigation, reflection, and improvement. Each of these projects and initiatives are supported by divisional or cross-divisional funding. Our work plan may be found in Appendix D.
The University is committed to supporting the accreditation review process by providing funding for outreach, assigned time, publications, professional development, and staff support.
