Conclusion, Core Commitment I

The CSULB community values collaborative decision-making. Rather than centralizing decision- making entirely, especially in the critical areas of managing growth and technology, the campus has created clearer lines of authority that direct some specific functions. The simplified reporting lines and the clearly-defined responsibilities in the reorganizations of both the University administration and the Academic Senate reflect the campus’ commitment to shared governance and collaborative responsibilities. The university is better equipped to meet the challenges facing higher education because it has implemented thoughtful organizational change while supporting a participatory culture.

Conclusions and Directions for the Educational Effectiveness Report

On-going assessment of decision-making processes and communication will be undertaken during the Educational Effectiveness Review (EER) as specified on page 7 of the Institutional Proposal:

How accessible, available and accurate are our print and electronic information sources and how can we increase the sharing of this information with both on- and off-campus constituencies to foster decision-making, further community relations, and facilitate student success?

How has the new Program Review and Assessment Policy furthered the assessment of student learning outcomes across the curriculum and in General Education? How has the new Program Review and Assessment Policy supported our efforts to graduate students with highly-valued degrees?

Our purpose in conducting this assessment of the effectiveness of our reorganization may be found in the last words of the two research questions: “student success” and “highly valued degrees.”
