Update July 7, 2009:
We are excited to begin the next major phase of construction at our Hall of Science Project. We plan to begin the erection of the building structural steel on Monday, July 13, 2009. We will also be commencing the construction of the lecture hall earthwork and foundations on Friday, July 10, 2009.
The existing building creates challenging limitations to the site. Therefore, we will need to build the crane on East Campus Drive and then move the crane onsite. We plan on closing East Campus Drive completely this Saturday; July 11, 2009 from 8:00am until approximately 2:00pm to facilitate this work. East Campus Drive will be closed at the traffic circle on State University Drive to the North and at the entrance to Lot 7 to the South. No traffic will be allowed on the road during this closure as this operation will require both lanes to be utilized. The Contractor will be posting signs and the local fire department has been notified to ensure any emergency responses in this area will not be delayed. We expect deliveries of structural steel to begin this Wednesday, July 8, 2009.
The project has completed the construction of the basement foundations, walls and slabs. We have also recently completed the final phase of demolition and are completing our last set of major underground utility relocations in the coming weeks. We will require one more water shutdown of the PH2 building to complete a fire hydrant relocation. We will schedule this work during off hours to minimize disruptions to the university. We will also be required to shutdown the air-conditioned HVAC water to microbiology in the coming weeks. We will coordinate these utility interruptions closely with the university as the dates are firmed up in the future. We do not anticipate any other utility interruptions in the near future.
The project is moving forward at an amazing pace as we mitigate the recent delay due to the mandated project suspension as a result of the recent state cashflow crisis.
We understand that the construction has required many sacrifices by our campus community and we really appreciate the understanding and cooperation everyone has displayed. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
