Work in Progress

There is still much to do in Environmental History of Latin America. New research agendas and new ways to incorporate environmental history in more traditional (or very cutting-edge) narratives of Latin American history.

Among the new initiatives in the field, Chris Boyer, from University of Chicago, and I are editing a book series on Environmental History of Latin America called Latin American Landscapes with the University of Arizona Press. We are welcoming manuscripts. See more information here.

This project also relates to other efforts to make ongoing research on world environmental history available in the internet. In particular, the American Society for Environmental History and the Forest History Society have inspired and supported the earlier versions of this bibliographies. Please find below important links and resources for similar projects, and let us know about links that could help in the development of the field.

Rede Brasileira de História Ambiental The Brazilian Enviromental History Network was established in 2007 to facilitate communications between government, business, cultural and scientific institutions and independent scholars. Since its foundation, it has expanded to include all states in Brazil and Latin America, and there are members in a range of other countries with interests in Brazil environmental history.
